1.       BACKGROUND

Nexus is a nonprofit alliance of development organizations committed to using carbon finance to alleviate poverty and foster sustainable development. Nexus aims at facilitating access to carbon finance through a 3 pillar-structure:

-          Nexus alliance, for expertise transfer among members

-          Nexus fund, a vehicle for ethical investments

-          Nexus beyond offsetting , a fair trade platform for ethical carbon credits

Nexus head office is in Singapore, and desk offices serve as support in Cambodia, Mali and soon to be in India. Nexus has currently 15 members, spread out over 15 countries (mainly South Asia, South East Asia, and Western Africa).

Nexus is looking for a Financial Analyst to carry out a research project on carbon finance transaction costs and to support the Executive Director in assessing pro poor carbon projects financial performance with a view to launch the investment fund.

2.       Duties and Responsibilities

The Financial Analyst will have two main responsibilities:

1.       Carry out a research project on carbon finance transaction costs

2.       Provide appropriate and timely financial information on projects screened for the investment fund

 

1.       Carbon Finance transaction costs (50%)

·         Propose a methodology to collect data on carbon finance transaction costs

·         Collect data from at least 3 projects

·         Analyze data collected and produce a report

·         Utilize the findings to produce input data to a carbon finance decision tool

 

2.       Financial analysis of projects submitted to the investment fund (50%)

·         Consolidate financial information available on projects and produce an analysis of the project returns, cash flows and financing needs (debt)

·         Produce adhoc marketing documents detailing the fund’s operations, investment strategy and pipeline of projects

·         Support the Executing director and the financial advisors in any other activities related to the set up of the investment fund

 

3.       PROFILE

Experience and Education

·         Final year of a Master’s degree with relevant specialization in finance

·         Experience in the finance industry is a plus

 

Skills

·         Excellent Microsoft excel skills is a must

·         Excellent professional proficiency in English is a must

·         Sensitivity to cultural differences

 

Personal quality

·         At ease in working in a small structure, start-up-type, where tasks and responsibilities are in constant move

·         Able to operate in a multicultural environment

·         High level of autonomy at work, yet with profound team-spirit

·         Adaptive, patient, resilient and flexible

·         Ability to work under pressure

 

4.       Position CONDITIONS:

Conditions:  400 USD per month, 1 return ticket home
