Position Description:
The
South River Federation seeks a full-time Restoration Project Manager to
write restoration grants and oversee the design, permitting, and
installation of significant environmental restoration projects ($100k+)
in the South River watershed. Primary responsibilities include writing
grants to fund restoration projects, working with design contractors to
develop restoration plans and acquire permits, and working with
construction contractors to build large-scale restoration
projects. The position will also involve collaboration with the
South Riverkeeper and other monitoring entities to assess project
effectiveness.
The
ideal candidate will be a confident and motivated self-starter with a
strong personal commitment to stream and wetland restoration and enjoy
working as part of a team in a fun and fast-paced environment. This
position reports to the Executive Director. |
Restoration Project Manager Responsibilities:
Detailed responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work
with Federation staff, local government, and communities within the
watershed to find sites appropriate for targeted restoration aimed at
improving habitat and reducing nutrient and sediment pollution to the
South River.
- Take the lead on finding and applying for restoration grants to fund design and construction of restoration projects.
- Developing RFPs and evaluating contract bids.
- Manage contracts with design firms to oversee development of plans and acquisition of permits for restoration projects.
- Manage construction contracts and provide construction oversight of restoration projects.
- Evaluating projects and preparing grant reports.
- Work
with developers in the South River watershed to ensure that stormwater
management plans and restoration efforts, if applicable, are best
suited to protect the health of the river.
- Work
with other Federation staff to coordinate volunteer participation in
restoration activities and ensure that restoration efforts are
publicized.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in guiding large-scale ($100k+) environmental restoration projects from conception to implementation.
- Strong,
persuasive, and direct written and verbal communication skills and
experience in dealing with landowners in a restoration context;
- Excellent
organizational and time management skills, natural problem solver,
self-starter, ability to work independently and also as a team player
with other individuals and organizations.
- Strong analytical and planning skills; experience in managing multiple projects/priorities;
- Highly functional computer skills including competency with MS Office suite.
- Commitment
to South River Federation mission, values and issues, and a dedication
to and passion for the diversity and health of river and watershed
ecosystems and the various natural and human activities that depend on
them.
- Stellar record of honesty and trustworthiness; and
- Masters
degree in engineering or a related field is preferred (Bachelors
required). Minimum five years of restoration project implementation
experience.

Organization Background:

South River is a tidal river located to the south of Annapolis,
Maryland. It is home to many characteristic Bay species such as
submerged aquatic vegetation, striped bass, bald eagles, great blue
herons, osprey, oysters, and blue crabs. The river watershed is
undergoing increasing urban and surburban development and the river is
threatened by excess nutrients, sediment runoff, chemical contaminants,
and loss of habitat.
