Responsible for the Environmental and Technical Safety affairs of the facility in accordance with regulations, receiving direction from Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Manager. Responsible for Environmental Compliance and technical PSM issues. Assures compliance with all, Federal & State, Environmental (EPA) regulatory agencies for the companies Ingredients. Develops an “in compliance at all times” regulatory culture at the plant site. Interacts with external customers, suppliers and communities where required. Coordinates and works with other designated site personnel to maintain and implement employee training. Assists in auditing facilities and the Safety Coordinator to insure compliance to regulations, corporate PSM Program, and company rules.

Responsible for assigned projects which will include Process Engineering and Project (equipment installation) Engineering. Will include new product development, capital equipment appropriation, design installation, and start-up. Split is 50% Environmental/Technical Safety and 50% Process and Project Engineering

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assures continued compliance of all environmental matters by routinely auditing the site and assuring qualified vendors (i.e. labs, supplies, cleaning contractors, etc.) are used where needed. Work with Safety Coordinator to maintain up to date emergency contingency plans at the site.

  • Responsible for Data compilation and report writing and submittal for all environmental related needs. Examples include Form R (Fed), TSCA (Fed), EIQ (State), quarterly, monthly, and weekly reports on air and water and wastewater discharges.

  • Continues to look for ways to reduce costs around wastewater and waste solids handling.

  • Assists Safety Coordinator with all incident and accident investigations and presents proper preventative actions to Technical and Project Manager to eliminate or reduce the potential for reoccurrence.

  • Serves as on-site liaison for all environmental inspectors. Represent company as required for environmental audits by government agencies and other programs with appropriate outside agencies as requested.

  • Assures compliance with the company/ DCV / DuPont / ConAgra / Syntex environmental agreements.

  • Updates current knowledge base concerning all Environmental Regulations.

  • Coordinates the Risk Management Plan and assures that it is up to date and that the plant is in compliance with it. Position is also a primary contact with the community.

  • Performs as primary project engineer for projects that are assigned. This could include design, purchasing, contract administration, safety analysis, operating instructions, and startup assistance.

  • Implements Process Safety Management Program that assures compliance by OSHA.

  • Maintain appropriate emergency contingency plans at manufacturing site.

  • Maintains safety and training records and conduct refresher courses and drills as required by OSHA including PSM and EPA.

  • Assist supervisors or other plant management on personnel and process safety issues and in conduction accident and incident investigations. Establishes preventive measures to eliminate or at least reduce potential for reoccurrence.

  • Works with permitting issues on existing and new production lines.

  • Assist in the design of all new facilities to ensure they meet all regulatory requirements and to ensure they provide for safe and efficient operations. Review and approve all capital projects and plant alterations to ensure compliance with appropriate safety requirements.

  • Follows al safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 3-5 years in chemical plant environment.

  • Environmental background a plus.

  • Must have current knowledge of OSHA & EPA regulations.
