The Ministry of the Environment`s Operations Division
seeks four conscientious, motivated individuals to assess compliance
with environmental legislation, regulations and policies by
inspecting, monitoring and conducting field/technical inquiries and
assessments on sources of air, water and land toxins. You will:
respond to alleged incidence of toxins, carry out inspections and
assess compliance with legislation/regulations; develop enforcement
options, review proposals and findings and propose solutions;
negotiate compliance strategies and implement action for compliance;
testify in legal proceedings and deal with public, municipal and
industrial officials. Please note that frequent shift work will be
required and you may be requested to participate in Environmental
Response Program.
These positions are located in Belleville (345 College St. E.),
Cornwall (113 Amelia St.), Kingston (1259 Gardiners Rd.) and
Peterborough (300 Water St.).
Please note that we are hiring 28 Environmental Officers throughout
the province for this initiative. Please refer also to Job IDS 8897,

Qualifications:knowledge
of environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines and
other statutes to assess regulatory compliance; knowledge of the
application of theories, principles and practices of environmental
sciences; knowledge of issues management theories and techniques to
manage sensitive situations; analytical and problem-solving skills to
assess compliance with legislation and interpret scientific and
technical data; well developed oral/written communication and
interpersonal skills; strong project management skills; demonstrated
skill with various computer applications such as WordPerfect,
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; valid driver`s licence.
